The laptop is built on the latest Kaby Lake processor and a GeForce GTX 1060 graphics card which give the Acer Predator Helios 300 (15.6″) G3-571-77QK its exemplary gaming prowess.

With the right gaming components and a classic design that adequately blends both metallic and plastic parts, the Acer Predator Helios 300 is a mid-range device that is not easy to beat. It comes in 15.6″ and 17.3″ sizes but we used the 15.6″ budget option for our tests and this review.

Let us find out why Acer Predator Helios 300 is an obvious choice for gaming enthusiasts who want to get the value of every cent spent.

Acer Predator Helios 300 is Solidly Built With A Sleek Design

The Acer Predator Helios 300 15-inch laptop borrows its design and build from its predecessors in the Acer Predator series. While it is one of the most inexpensive gaming laptops out there, you would realize that when you look at it; or even when you hold it up. It looks impressively solid and looks resistant to scratches or damage hence has the ability to serve you for years without signs of abrasion. The lid is mostly aluminium and really looks good, except for the smal plastic bumper at the top. That is not all on the lid as the Predator logo is nicely printed on it and discreetly flanked by two red lines.

Lifting the lid reveals a full keyboard on a black metallic deck with sturdy keys that will obviously not wobble afte days of consistent use. The inner side of the lid has an attractive bezel all round the 15.6-inch display. Under the display is the Predator logo while at the top left corner is the Acer logo. Its wide range of ports are also carefully placed on the sides.

Display

Let us face it! The Helios 300 display is not the best you would want to have for a gaming notebook but it is perfectly usable and still one of the best you can find for a budget gaming laptop. In fact, with a full HD IPS screen of 1920×1080, the Acer Predator Helios 300 (G3-571-77QK) provides an amazing upgrade on the previous models. It also provides spectacular viewing angles which is an important consideration for every gaming enthusiast.

The downside in the display is that you will partially strain when when you use the Helios 300 under direct sunlight. Well, who plays their favorite computer game under direct sunlight? A light meter on average brightness indicates that the screen measures 226 nits which is slightly lower than the average but will not give you any problems.

Solid Performance

Acer Predator Helios 300Helios 300 gaming laptop basically has two main selling points . Firstly, it runs on a 2.8 GHz Core i7-7700QH processor which is the latest and by far the most superior Intel processor. Secondly, the Pascal-based Nvidia GeForce 1060 card running on 6GB of GDDR VRAM. The combination of the superior processor and the Pascal-based graphics card necessitates smooth gaming. More interestingly, the quad core processor allows hyper threading and unlike most laptop devices, Acer gives you the option of upgrading this device from 2.8 GHz to an impressive 3.8 GHz. This is aided by the plastic cover at the bottom that you can easily unscrew and pop off to access the hard drive.

Even with the most modern computer games such as The Witcher 3 played in native resolution and high details will play smoothly with a stable frame rate and commendable response time. The device also features a 16GB RAM and 256GB boot drive.
